The Festival will take place for the 10th time this year on Saturday, July 6. The day of start is traditionally a first Saturday of July – that’s when the events in the novel “Crimeand Punishment” started. This event has become St. Petersburg literary tradition.
There’s no doubt that the life of F.M. Dostoevsky in St. Petersburg was fully influenced by the city and depicted in his work. Dostoevsky had many addresses in St. Petersburg at different points of his life. In many of them he wrote his famous novels, and today we can see memorial plates on buildings reminding us about the presence of Dostoevsky. His last apartmentbecame a museum, you can read about it in our recent post.
On the Day of Dostoevsky a few libraries, museums and theatres will host active program, including carnival with gigantic puppets depicting Russian writers such as Gogol, Pushkin, Chekhov and Dostoevsky, master-classes and excursions from the young tour-guides who studied at Dostoevsky Museum for 1 year to prepare this special program. On Sennaya Square you can learn more about the “Crime and Punishment”, participate in the quest following Raskolnikov footsteps, visit street exhibition “Small joys of a small person” and many more.
