This catholic holiday though not being Russian at all rooted in our country more than a decade ago. This day is celebrated all over the country. It can be partly explained by the fact that Russian soul is really fond of festivals, especially when all major winter holidays are over. It is just a reason to have fun. But many cafes and shops give special offers for those in love. But still recent researches show that the popularity of this holiday in Russia has declined over last 5 years.
In orthodox tradition there is a similar holiday that is called the Day of Family, Love and Faithfulness or the Day of Saint Peter and Saint Fevronia. It takes place on 8 July.
