Many fans of the great Russian marine artist were quite disappointed not having found the famous works in the museum. Surely, that is a significant part of the Russian Museum collection, but the Museum decided to share its joy of exhibiting it with The State Tretyakov Gallery, which devoted the event to the 200th anniversary of Ivan Aivazovsky’s birth.
The exhibition in Moscow is due to end in November, 20. In December the State Tretyakov Gallery will pass the baton to the Russian Museum, which is going to house even a bigger Aivazovsky exhibition – it will include some more paintings from private collections.
Coming to St Petersburg in December is a good idea for any art lover. You can enjoy the masterpieces up to the end of the winter. What’s more it is a great chance to see several works of Karl Bryullov replacing the Aivazovsky’s paintings in the The Mikhailovsky Palace. Isn’t it a wonderful bonus to your course of Russian?
